COP27 was the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), a global summit where governments and other stakeholders discussed and negotiated actions to address the climate crisis. Hosted out of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, in November 2022, COP27’s aim was to inspire more ambition and cooperation among all stakeholders to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, which is to limit the global temperature rise to well below 2°C, preferably to 1.5°C, compared to pre-industrial levels.

Generating a Supply of High-Quality Credits
Generating a Supply of High-Quality Credits
The growth of carbon credit markets has accelerated significantly over the past year, and is poised to grow ten-fold by 2030. The space is rapidly evolving, with broadening market diversity, new players, and increased blurring between compliance and voluntary markets. Well-functioning international carbon markets for high-quality carbon credits can advance global climate action and support higher climate ambition. Market actors across public, private, academia, and civil societies need to work together to sustain growth and unlock new supply of high quality carbon credits that can contribute towards a shared net-zero future. Hydrogen as a low-carbon energy source is experiencing a global resurgence, but scaling up is challenging due to high cost barriers. Can carbon markets help lower costs and accelerate deployment?

Transforming Food Systems: Decarbonising Rice
Transforming Food Systems: Decarbonising Rice
Rice cultivation contributes 10% of global man-made methane emissions, and up to one-third of the region’s methane emissions in Southeast Asia where rice is a staple food. Transition to sustainable rice farming is essential to the net zero transition, and cost-effective and proven solutions to reduce rice emissions are ready for deployment. This panel brings together various stakeholders across research, industry and investment to share their insights on the challenges and opportunities to improving the sustainability of rice cultivation.

Tackling the Twin Crises of Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss through Nature-Based Climate Solutions
Tackling the Twin Crises of Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss through Nature-Based Climate Solutions
The twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss are inextricably linked. Addressing the synergies between mitigating biodiversity loss and climate change offers the opportunity to maximise environmental and socio-economic benefits. This panel brings together different stakeholders to explore the interconnections between climate change and biodiversity loss. Though presentations and a panel discussion, this event brings insight into the work of different stakeholders to address the linkages, the current gaps in finding synergistic solutions and how different sectors can work together to help scale up nature-based climate solutions for positive climate and biodiversity action worldwide.
