COP31 will be jointly hosted by Australia and Türkiye, marking the first time a unique split-presidency model will be adopted for a UN Climate Change Conference. While negotiations will take place in Antalya, Australia will serve as COP President and steer the multilateral negotiation process. The conference is expected to place a strong spotlight on the Pacific, underscoring both the disproportionate climate risks faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and the imperative to mobilise greater flows of climate finance, investment, and implementation support to the region. Against a backdrop of rising climate impacts and growing pressure to deliver on global climate commitments, COP31 is anticipated to be a critical milestone for translating ambition into tangible action, particularly for vulnerable communities on the frontlines of climate change.
